Supporting Aspiring Lawyers and Human Scientists

There are many career paths that fall within Human Sciences and Law; our programme supports students that want to explore, investigate and pursue a career within this sector.

Human Sciences aim to explain human behaviour, devise theories to predict it, and then create solutions for problems identified by those predictions. A wide range of subjects are encapsulated, including Sociology, Criminology, Politics and Law. Also, Psychology and Philosophy, that are offered in the IB Diploma.

Career related opportunities in Humans Sciences & Law have included:

  • A a trip to the UCL Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging – where students can see brain scanners first-hand and ask questions to current researchers (Year 12)
  • Sixth Form Philosophy talk and conference
  • Visiting the Museum of Zoology (Year 12)
  • Guest speakers in Human Science related careers
  • (Year 12) Debating Club / competitions - the opportunity to represent TGS at national debating tournaments
  • Philosophy Club
  • Essay competitions

As part of the IB Diploma:

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course includes a dedicated unit to exploring the nature of knowledge in the Human Sciences. This considers a critical exploration of research methods and the history of the discipline.
  • Students can also explore the Human Sciences in their Extended Essay; they can research a topic that they are interested in which can give an insight as to whether they would like to explore this sector in the future
