The universities reflect a diverse range of locations, courses and entry requirements providing all Year 12s with fantastic opportunities to learn more about the process of applying to Higher Education.

Each university provided a different focus. UCL spoke about applying to competitive universities and Leeds gave a talk specifically on studying Law and other Social Science subjects. They both highlighted the various assets of their institution. Leeds, for example, is home to the head offices of many blue chip companies making it an excellent place for lawyers to get work experience while they study.

The talk from St Hugh’s College, Oxford was centred around the unique aspects of an application to them including choosing a college and the interview process.

The University of East Anglia and the University of Manchester both focused on writing personal statements and it was gratifying to see both universities asking for similar requirements. Alexandra, an Admissions Officer at University of Manchester, added even more value to her talk as she is a TGS alumna and could talks to the students first-hand about life after the IB.

“I wanted to learn more about life at university, the application process and specific details about certain universities including the entry requirements. I found hearing from someone with first-hand experience at the university being spoken about really interesting as they could give me an accurate insight into life at universities. I especially enjoyed attending a talk specifically on studying law at university as it has helped me to understand the process of becoming a lawyer. In addition, a talk on how to apply to Oxford was very helpful as it is a different process to other universities.
