TGS team compete in South-East Regional Final of ESU Churchill Public Speaking Competition

On Wednesday 20 March, the TGS Public Speaking Team travelled to The King’s School in Canterbury for the South-East Regional Final of the ESU Churchill Public Speaking Competition. TGS did incredibly well to make it through to this round, as we were one of the final six schools from the South-East of England.

The ESU’s Churchill Public Speaking Competition is widely recognised as one of the most prestigious public speaking competitions for UK students. Participants are judged and appraised on several factors, including delivery, poise and content, meaning that it is a very beneficial event to develop public speaking skills.

The team, comprising of Anoushka (Year 9), Corinne (Year 10) and Lucille (Year 9), really enjoyed the event and participated eagerly. Unfortunately, we were unlucky to not be named regional champions, with the honour instead going to the King’s School. However, all three members of the team have taken valuable feedback away from the event and found it a very rewarding experience.

Lucille said, ‘The experience was fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed the event as a whole. Thank you very much to the ESU for providing us with this wonderful experience to develop ourselves as young speakers and to our teachers for preparing us so effectively.’
