The first round is a 60-minute, 25 multiple choice question challenge aimed at students in Years 8-9.

The problems are for both beginner and experienced problem-solvers and are designed to make students think.

40 students achieved a score that qualifies them for the Kangaroo follow on round, and Sanudi in Year 7 whose score was sufficiently high to qualify her for the Junior Olympiad.
