Year 10 enjoy workshop with our Writer-in-Residence, Dan Abnett

Year 10 were fortunate to have a visit from our Writer-in-Residence, Dan Abnett. Dan is an extremely accomplished writer of comic books and novels, and has an English degree from the University of Oxford.

He ran a workshop with the whole of Year 10, in which he talked to them about his own writing process, shared his top tips, and set them a challenge to create their own story on the theme of 'escape', which is the type of prompt they could receive in their GCSE English Language writing tasks.

The students enjoyed asking Dan about his experiences of formulating ideas, overcoming writer's block, and creating characters.

We are delighted that Dan has agreed to continue his Residency with TGS next year and we already have exciting ideas in the pipeline for the next academic year!

It was really lovely to have someone come in and specifically talk to us about creative writing, share his tips and answer our questions. I personally really enjoy creative writing and I know many others do too, so this was a great opportunity for all of us to learn more details as to how to better our writing. We all found it really interesting and useful, and it's amazing that he wrote comic strips for Marvel!'
