Students create racing cars using their knowledge of aerodynamics

At the end of the summer term, and as part of their Product Design programme, Year 8 students learnt about aerodynamics.  They were challenged to use this knowledge to create a racing car that would travel the furthest distance.

Each of the six classes raced against each other, followed by a 'Grand Final' for the winners from each class plus the 2 other students whose cars had managed to reach over 7 metres in distance! It was an exciting, closely won contest, culminating with Juliet's car reaching 7.90 metres on her final run (despite her wheels having fallen off and having to be re-fixed in a pit stop between races)!

I really enjoyed the race car challenge and I'm really happy that I won, despite all the setbacks. It was a really fun experience and I could not have done it without the help of two of my friends.

Juliet, Year 7

We were so pleased with the enthusiasm and creativity that all Year 7 students put into completing this challenge -onward and upwards for the remainder of their TGS Design Technology journey!
