Rich cultural diversity of TGS celebrated during our annual Culture Day

27 September saw us come together as a community to recognise and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of TGS during our annual Culture Day. This was organised and run by a range of students including those from our Diversity and Inclusion Alliance and is supported by a very dedicated group of staff.

The school was focused on five countries: India, Japan, Nigeria, China and Greece. The students were able to attend workshops around these countries including looking at cultural dress, dance, film, food, history, art , language, crafts and music. As well as the workshops we had a fashion show where students were able to model and discuss the outfits they were wearing alongside some fantastic activities from the PE and Music Departments.

For part of the day, we were incredibly lucky to be joined by Sakthi Raavanan, a teacher of the Parai, a traditional Indian drum. Sakthi Raavanan teaches the Parai to people all over the world and is currently doing a PhD in Parai in India. He was joined in a demonstration and workshop by members of a local Indian drumming group.
