Year 11 and 13 students explore the rich culture of Normandy

During the half-term break a group of Year 11 and 13 students who are studying French travelled to Rouen to enrich their studies.

They enjoyed visits to Caen Castle, Mont Saint-Michel, Rouen Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Historical Ironworks as well as the opportunity to explore local markets.  Additionally, they had a morning of language tuition and visited a local chocolate factory.

The French trip was super fun! All the locations that we visited were gorgeous and full of character, especially Caen and Mont Saint-Michel. The architecture and artwork were incredibly intricate and fascinating to see up close; the abbeys, castles, churches, sculptures, and paintings made for some stunning photos. I also tried compôte for the first time, which I immediately loved!

Joan, Year 11

‘I cannot emphasise enough how much I enjoyed visiting Normandy with school! Spending several days in a different environment with people I usually wouldn’t see outside of school was a great opportunity to strengthen my sense of community, and I really felt at home. It was wonderful to be immersed in French culture and properly utilise my French to communicate with and help those around me. The highlight of the trip for me wouldn’t be one event but rather all the time I spent exploring or walking with friends, whose awe at the gorgeous architecture and delicious food was palpable and contagious. My sincerest appreciation goes out to all the staff who worked so hard to make this trip happen and to accommodate me in the process.’
