Children's Mental Health Week 'Know yourself, grow yourself'.

Last week we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week at TGS, focusing on the theme ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself.’

Throughout the week, we worked with various external charities and our student leaders to promote mental wellness and self-awareness.

Kooth, a digital mental health platform, led a session with our students during form time, exploring emotional resilience and how to adapt to stressful or unexpected situations. Additionally, the Charlie Waller Trust joined us to host a wellbeing evening for Years 7-10 parents, discussing the positives and perils of perfectionism, along with strategies to help young people manage this.

On Wednesday, our student sports ambassadors did a brilliant job of promoting wellness through fun activities during lunch. They helped to set up a smoothie bike station and Just Dance circuits, encouraging everyone to move, have fun, and de-stress.

To wrap up the week, we welcomed The Mental Health Resource Charity, which set up a stall offering wellbeing tools and the chance for students to connect with others and discuss how they make their mental wellbeing a priority. Throughout the week, Year 12 students also presented assemblies, sharing insights on self-awareness and encouraging their peers to explore what it means to truly know themselves.

We hope that this week has not only helped to reduce the stigma around mental health but also encouraged open conversations and a greater sense of empathy within our school community.

We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health, and nurturing both is essential to the success and happiness of our students. We hope the discussions and experiences from this week have empowered our students to prioritise their mental wellbeing and to seek support when they need it.

During the week, students and staff were encouraged to share the things they do to make their mental wellbeing a priority:

I make my mental wellbeing a priority by reading, listening to music and writing in my diary about how I feel.

Student

I make my mental wellbeing a priority by reading every day.
