Reading Matters Month

The beginning of March saw the launch of our 'Reading Matters Month' at Tonbridge Grammar School.

This week there have been a wide variety of reading-related opportunities for students to enjoy.  The week started with the Readathon, encompassed World Book Day and closed with our Headteachers' conversation.

Seeing students competing to clock reading minutes has been a pleasure: 7A have started very strongly and have already recorded over 30 hours of reading.

World Book Day gave us some great costumes, showing imagination and reflecting such a wide variety of texts. From our 'Inspector Calls' Year 13s to the Student Librarian's '101 (or nearly) Dalmatians' to 'Bodas de Sangre', one of the texts Sixth Form students study in Higher Level Spanish, we all enjoyed the day despite the literary villains in the English department.

Fayerman triumphed by a narrow margin in our annual World Book Day quizzes, but all students competed admirably.

We closed on Friday with our three most recent Headteachers in conversation about, amongst a wide variety of topics, why reading matters.

This week sees the school celebrating International Women's Day with a reading twist: assemblies have highlighted some influential women and their writings from Helean Kennedy to Sveltana Alexievich.
