Year 7 students successful in Cambridge Schools Classics Project Ovid Competition

All Year 7 students recently undertook a Roman mythology project in their Latin lessons where they enjoyed reading and listening to several stories from the Roman world and had to interpret one of the stories in a creative way.

They looked at the myths associated with Arachne, Persephone and Pandora - all women who were unfairly made responsible for something.

The students' work showed the power of nature, the strength of the women and the emotional challenges they faced. Students submitted their work for judging by their Latin teachers and just four were chosen to be entered in a national competition run by the Cambridge Schools Classics Project.

The final, against 26 other schools took place on Friday 9 December and Nel received a Highly Commended award for her painting of Demeter and Persephone.

Our team of four also came second overall in the mythology quiz which took place at the finals.

Congratulations to all the students who produced such outstanding work.
