Medsoc enjoy visit from former students Niamh (a doctor) and Nirvana (a mental health pharmacist)

It was wonderful to welcome former TGS students Niamh and Nirvana back to TGS.  As part of their day they visited Medsoc to share their post TGS experiences.

Niamh is an F3 doctor who talked to students about GP training, choosing to become a GP and locuming (filling in shifts).  She also talked about the applicable skills you can get from volunteering and how work experience allows you to get a feel for a career in medicine.

Nirvana is a mental health pharmacist, who studied at Lincoln for four years, which included an integrated masters. Students learnt about working in mental health and how the language element of the IB came in useful during Nirvana's elective in Peru,

Engaging with current students and sharing my experiences was incredibly fulfilling. I hope I was able to inspire some of them to consider careers in pharmacy and mental health. The enthusiasm and curiosity of the students were palpable, and it was a pleasure to answer their questions and provide insights into the profession.

They both talked about the reasons for choosing their university - location, course content, requirements, etc. - as well as how the IB experience acted as an introduction to the real world. The EE prepared them for dissertations, while the rest of the IB helped time management, volunteering, and meeting deadlines.
