Year 12 students enjoy Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away at the London Coliseum.

On Wednesday 26 June, Year 12 Japanese Ab Initio and Higher Level English Language and Literature students went along to the thrilling live production of Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, at the London Coliseum.

The globally adored story, originally a Studio Ghibli animated film, was brought to life with beautiful visuals and complex costumes, co-ordinated by the lively cast members- some, the same voice actors 20 years on. Drawn together by magnificent live music, the experience was utterly captivating.

Everyone was ablaze with excitement following the performance, and we walked away with enriched insights into the film, which Literature and Language students are studying as a non-literary text. Being subtitled (and using dialogue from the original script!)  was helpful for our Japanese listening skills too.

Given the chance, I would absolutely go again- I can wholeheartedly recommend this production to anyone, regardless of interest in Japanese culture or film- this performance is sure to entrance you!
