U13 footballers triumph in second round of Kent Cup

In a highly anticipated second round clash of the Kent Schools Cup, the TGS U13 football team made a successful start to their campaign, battling to a well-earned victory away against The Ravensbourne School in Bromley.

After receiving a bye in the first round, TGS were eager to kick off their tournament journey. They started the match brightly, creating early chances and applying pressure on Ravensbourne's defence. Despite TGS's attacking intent, Ravensbourne's goalkeeper—who would later be named player of the match for her side—was in outstanding form, making a series of important saves to keep the scores level at 0-0.

TGS's breakthrough came from Ella, who showcased her skill by starting out wide on the left, cutting inside her defender, and firing a right-footed shot that found the back of the net after bouncing in off the post.

However, just before half-time, TGS were caught on the counterattack, allowing Ravensbourne to equalise, bringing the score to 1-1 at the break.

In the second half, TGS continued their dominant display, starting on the front foot. Izzy made her mark, scoring her first of two goals with a powerful shot from outside the box that found its way into the back of the net. Not long after, she completed her brace by latching onto a through ball from Sylvie, calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner to extend TGS's lead.

TGS didn’t let up, and Orla sealed the victory with a composed finish from close range, expertly converting a cross delivered by Olivia into the box.

Olivia was deservedly named player of the match for her tireless work down the right wing, consistently delivering dangerous crosses into the area. She came close to adding a goal herself, with a well-struck free kick that hit the underside of the bar but, to the disbelief of the spectators, stayed out.

The final whistle confirmed a 4-1 victory for TGS, sending them confidently into the next round of the Kent Schools Cup.
