Biology Week; visits from an NHS Physiotherapist and alumna studying Human Evolutionary Sciences, Forensic Science research and seminars

TGS celebrated Biology Week before half-term, providing a wide range of opportunities to explore the application of Biology in the wider world.

Students interested in pursuing physiotherapy as a career were able to get pointers from an NHS physiotherapist and alumna Eve (Class of 2020, now studying a Masters of Philosophy in Human Evolutionary Sciences at Cambridge*) was able to guide Sixth Form students on applying for Biology at university.

Y13 student Ozan also provided an insight into his World Studies Extended Essay on the biological effects of Agent Orange, delivering a well-prepared seminar to IB Diploma and GCSE students.

At the end of the week there was the opportunity for students to take part in some forensic science research - completing DNA electrophoresis experiments to work out which criminal left DNA behind at a crime scene.

Years 7-11 were also treated to a quiz at lunchtime run by sixth formers.

*  Eve's IB Diploma programme was as follows: Higher Level Biology, Chemistry, Latin | Standard Level History, English Literature and Maths.  Prior to Cambridge she studied BSc in Biological Sciences at Queen's University Belfast.
