CAS Story: Antoinina and Eva visit Auschwitz-Birkenau as part of the Holocaust Educational Trust Ambassador Programme

Antoinina explains more... We travelled to Poland with a group in order to visit concentration camps such as Auschwitz and listen to a series of talks to ensure we were well-informed about the events that transpired.

Eva and I prepared for our visit to Poland by taking part in a series of seminars which were organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust. These seminars helped us form a solid foundation of what was expected of us by allowing us to meet with a group of peers to discuss various prompts.

After our visit, we were tasked with creating a project which would allow us to share the experience and involve others in actively choosing to learn about this horrific event.

Eva and I chose to share this through a series of assemblies that we have since presented to the school. Together we planned these assemblies to focus on the theme of 'Individuals in the Holocaust'; we wanted to draw attention to specific cases where people lost their lives, and we did so through exploring three case studies in our assemblies.

To further spread information about the tragic events of the Holocaust, Eva and I planned an activity which would allow members of our school community to participate in remembrance. Each form group was allocated names of individuals who had lost their lives in the Holocaust, the members of each form group were then tasked with creating a 'name tag' which would be taken home and placed next to a candle to be lit on Holocaust Remembrance Day at 8pm - along with the rest of the UK.

The feedback that we had from this task was incredibly positive with students writing in about how glad they were to have been able to take part in this experience alongside us.
