Rowena Chiu, global #MeToo activist and Harvey Weinstein survivor, gives truly inspiring talk to Sixth Form Students

Rowena Chiu, a global #MeToo activist and Harvey Weinstein survivor visited school on Wednesday, at the instigation of Nyla, one of our Sixth Form students, and gave a truly inspiring, eloquent and deeply personal talk to Year 12 and some of Year 13.

Rowena is a management consultant who was raised in England and now lives in California. In 1996, she graduated from Oxford University with a degree in English Literature. Her story has featured in both the book and the film, SHE SAID. She has given over 700 media interviews across four continents, for international news outlets. She has testified at the House of Commons, the Massachusetts State House, and the State Of The Union. She is writing a memoir, a novel, and a screenplay. She is a powerful advocate for the rights of those who are oppressed or voiceless, in churches, schools, universities and workplaces around the world.

It was truly wonderful for our students to hear her, and their attentiveness and highly perceptive questions showed the power of Rowena’s talk, but is also testament to their maturity and emotional intelligence.

Mrs Thompson, Subject Leader History

Rowena's talk was hugely engaging, and both educational in terms of the social and legal barriers that women face when attempting to attain justice in sexual assault cases, and inspirational in terms of how she and others overcame them.
