Year 13 biologists explore epigenetics, ecology, astrobiology and physiology at Biology in Action lectures

A group of Year 13 students and teachers were able to attend a series of lectures run by Biology in Action at the Emmanuel Centre, London on a vast range of topics covering hearing, epigenetics, ecology, astrobiology and physiology.

Seeing the wide variety of careers available in Biology as well as how Biology is portrayed in the media provided a real insight into the varied nature of the subject. Students were able to see how their learning in the classroom is applied and were able to extend their own knowledge.

I really enjoyed listening to the lectures at the Emmanuel Centre as they were delivered with such enthusiasm. My personal highlight was learning about Antarctic ice fish and seeing their unusual translucent appearance - they looked like aliens!

Joshika, Year 13

It was a real delight seeing the students engaged with the lectures and hearing them make links with what they've learned in the IB diploma programme. Who knows - maybe we'll see an astrobiologist in our alumni community soon!
