In-year admissions

In-year entry to the school

Tonbridge Grammar School is popular and heavily oversubscribed.  This means that the School is usually full in all year groups although occasionally space will arise due to family relocation or change of school.  If you would like to make an application you are welcome to do so.

The In Year Casual Application Form is available to download here - please send the completed form direct to the Admissions Office at the school.  If you live outside Kent you will need to contact your current Local Authority to establish their arrangements for in year transfer, which may differ from Authority to Authority.

Please note:

At TGS students in years 7-9 study French, Latin and Spanish and at least one of these languages is studied at GCSE level.  Your child would not be tested for a language they have not previously studied, but they would be expected to study these languages according to our syllabus. In the Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) Our students study the International Baccalaureate as a Sixth Form study programme – we do not offer A-Levels.

Should your child be in receipt of Pupil Premium or Free School Meals, please ensure you highlight this to the Admissions Team and provide suitable evidence with your application (a letter from their current school or eligibility paperwork from the Government) to apply under the Pupil Premium admission category.

All applicants are expected to sit pre-admission CAT4 tests to determine eligibility and written papers in English, Maths and Languages to assess suitability. CAT4 scores will be advised to all applicants in approximately two weeks and, in addition, feedback regarding suitability will be provided if your child meets the eligibility criteria of at least 118 in each CAT4 test.  The Admissions Office will contact you to make arrangements for these.
